The Cannondale Ai (Asymmetric Integration) system is a design that shifts the rear hub and drivetrain 6mm to the right, creating an asymmetrical rear triangle. This offset allows for shorter chainstays and a stiffer, stronger rear wheel because the spoke tension and angles are equal on both sides. It is used on certain Cannondale off-road and gravel bike models to improve handling, stiffness, and power transfer.
On a Cannondale AI designed bike, you will always see the following 3 unique features:
- the frame, with an offset rear triangle, +6 mm to the Driveside
- a rear wheel with a specific spoke lacing, to match the frame
- a crankset that is offset to the right, to match the chainline
As of 2024, Cannondale does not develop new models with AI offset anymore. The latest Scalpel (from 2024), Topstone and SuperX (from 2025) are designed without AI Offset, meaning you can use std laced wheels and cranksets.
Existing Cannondale models that are equipped with AI are:
- Scalpel Si (until 2020),
- F-Si (until 2021),
- Scalpel (until 2023),
- Topstone Carbon (2020-2021),
- Supersix CX/SE (2021-2022)
